PTDI Conducts Ferry Flight of NC212i NavTrain Configuration for the Indonesian Air Force
Bandung (04/12) – PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) once again demonstrates solid progress in fulfilling the contract for nine (9) NC212i aircraft with the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia for the end user, the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU), through the ferry flight of the seventh NC212i unit from PTDI’s Delivery Center Hangar in Bandung to Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base in Malang. The aircraft was delivered in the Navigation Training (NavTrain) configuration, specifically designed to support aircrew training and strengthen PTDI’s contribution to enhancing the operational readiness and educational capabilities of the Indonesian Air Force.
The NC212i in the NavTrain configuration is equipped with a dedicated navigation training desk and instrument panel, instructor and trainee seats, communication devices, and a navigation system that enables hands-on training for flight procedures directly onboard. These features make the NC212i NavTrain an effective platform for aircrew, particularly future navigators and mission crew, supporting the development of TNI AU’s human resource competence in responding to a wide range of operational scenarios.
“Alhamdulillah, this morning we were able to carry out the ferry flight of the NC212i from Bandung to Malang. On behalf of the Board of Directors, we extend our gratitude to the Ministry of Defense and the Indonesian Air Force for the trust given to PTDI. After delivering six previous units, today we are flying the seventh aircraft out of the nine units in the contract. The NC212i is a versatile aircraft capable of supporting various missions, including the Navigation Training configuration. We hope today’s ferry flight runs smoothly and that all crew members are blessed with safety and protection from Allah SWT,” said PTDI’s Director of Production, Dena Hendriana.
Director of Production Dena Hendriana, together with the NC212i program team, inspected the preparation for the ferry flight of the NC212i, which will later be operated by Air Squadron 4. The aircraft, bearing tail number AX-2134, was flown by Major Pnb Kurniawan S. as Pilot in Command Ferry and Captain Pnb Wahyu Nur Syarifudin as Copilot. Prior to delivery, the aircraft underwent an Indonesian Defence Airworthiness Authority (IDAA) Acceptance on 3 December 2025 to ensure all quality and operational airworthiness aspects met applicable defense standards. With this delivery, PTDI has completed seven (7) out of the nine (9) NC212i units stipulated in the contract with the Ministry of Defense, while the eighth unit is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2026.
As with previous units, this aircraft is equipped with MTV-27 propellers manufactured by MT-Propeller, Germany, certified by EASA. These propellers offer lower noise levels, smoother performance during single-engine operations at altitude, and eliminate shock during engine start-up. The MTV-27 has also been proven compatible with the installed Honeywell TPE331 engines, ensuring optimal performance with minimal noise and vibration during operation.
“On behalf of Air Squadron 4, we extend our deepest appreciation to the entire team for the collaboration in delivering this seventh aircraft. May today’s ferry flight to Malang be carried out with ease, smoothness, and safety, and may the synergy between PTDI and the Indonesian Air Force continue to strengthen in supporting future air defense. This Navigation Training aircraft will replace our previous NavTrain platform, which has been in service since 1985. With the NC212i NavTrain, we expect navigator training to become more effective, enabling graduates to be ready for duty on modern aircraft. The NC212i has proven its reliability, is battle-proven, and is capable of operating in challenging environments, including short runways, as demonstrated in its recent humanitarian mission in Medan,” said Deputy Commander of Group 1, Colonel Pnb Wisnu Aji Prabowo.
